ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDIES
An Environmental Impact Study (EIS) is prepared to demonstrate that a proposed development will have no negative impacts on the natural features or ecological functions of the subject and adjacent lands. Their purpose is to identify any existing or potential ecological constraints to development and subsequently any mitigations required to reduce/avoid negative impacts that may be caused by a development. JPE utilizes local ecological experts and GIS professionals to ensure our clients receive a high quality and accurate report, within a short timeframe.
The purpose of a Post-Construction Monitoring (PCM) Report is to discuss the effectiveness of mitigation and reclamation measures along the reclaimed right-of-way following the construction of a pipeline. Jack Pine Environmental can conduct both Post-Construction Reclamation Assessments (PCRA) which are regulated by Alberta Energy Regulator; and Post-Construction Environmental Monitoring (PCEM) programs, regulated by the National Energy Board. Our data collection includes soil, landscape and vegetation monitoring, as well as watercourse crossing and wetland assessments. JPE will use a highly experienced team to handle all aspects of meeting your regulatory reporting requirements, to ensure all requirements are met, with accuracy and efficiency.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION MONITORING
Environmental monitoring is an important aspect to construction projects. The success of activities such as soil handling, for example, prior-to and during construction can have enormous effects on reclamation success following construction. JPE uses field personnel with a wide variety of biophysical knowledge, including soil, agronomy, erosion and sediment control, vegetation and wetlands to ensure clients are getting value for their monitoring and inspection dollars. Field personnel are educated in environmental sciences and have the experience required to achieve success throughout the project timeline.
Weed surveys are conducted prior to the construction of a linear development (i.e., pipeline, highway, transmission line, or other) in support of regulatory submission requirements. Weed surveys serve to provide the client with an inventory of weeds within an area which can assist in vegetation management planning during the life of the project. JPE uses experienced personnel with knowledge of weed species throughout Central and Western Canada.
LAND EVALUATION STUDIES
Jack Pine Environmental has a high level of experience conducting soil and land assessments as part of the Feed-in-Tarif (FIT) Land Evaluation Protocol in support of FIT Program solar facilities for lands with mixed prime agricultural designations. JPE is capable of providing prompt service in order to assist with meeting tight deadlines and will provide high quality field data incorporated into professional and effective final reports.
WETLAND EVALUATION STUDIES
The wetland evaluation system was created to inform and assist Ontario’s land use planning process. Wetlands are evaluated to aid conservation authorities, municipalities and others with land use planning. Only those who have taken the Ontario Wetland Evaluation Course put on by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are able to officially evaluate wetlands under this system. Under the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement identifies Provincially Significant Wetlands (PSWs) in order to protect these important hydro-logical features from development and site alteration. JPE is officially certified to undertake wetland evaluations.

PHASE I ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENTS
As per the Canadian Standards Association, the objective of a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is to determine whether the subject property is or may be subject to contamination; to identify areas of potential environmental concern and associated contaminants of potential concern, if any; and to determine if a Phase II ESA is required. Phase I ESAs are generally completed prior to purchasing or leasing land/property to ensure no previous environmental liabilities exist. JPE has a high level of experience conducting Phase I ESA’s for residential, commercial and oil and gas properties/clients. JPE’s site assessors have acquired specific Phase I and Phase II ESA training through the Associated Environmental Site Assessors of Canada. JPE completes Phase I ESAs in accordance with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z768‑01 Phase I ESA Standard. We are able to tailor reports to fit the needs and the budget of our clients, while maintaining accuracy and quality.
